Proving that a picture really is worth a thousand words, the single most important feature people want in online dating is the ability to see photos.
According to Jupiter Research, photos are even more important than privacy or a detailed profile.
In fact, men are 14 times more likely to look at an online profile with a photo than one without, according to match.com. And women are 8.5 times more likely.
In the first years of online dating, many people had a hard time posting their photos to the Web. And this slowed the growth of online dating services in the late 90s.
But by 2001, posting pictures became much simpler as more people got broadband connections, scanners and digital cameras.
Digital cameras meant more people had pictures of themselves on their computers. And broadband made uploading and browsing photos much faster.
